COVID-19 Return to Play Guidelines

October 3, 2020

South Bucks Comets are eager to get all teams back on court as soon as possible but we want to return in the correct way.  The health, safety and security of our players is the most important thing to us so, with the support of the Government, Sport England, Basketball England and our venues, we’ve worked hard to adapt our training sessions to meet the latest government guidelines whilst preserving all the benefits the sessions offers.

Getting back on court.

Sadly, Chalfont and Chesham Leisure centre are closed for renovations until January and Amersham School have work going on, on site, which prevents our usage. However, we are in talks with alternative locations.  Once days and times have been confirmed, we will update the website and let you all know.

Social distancing before and after sessions.

  • All participants will be screened on arrival and their attendance documented.

  • Any individual who answers positively to the screening questions will be asked to return home and self-isolate in line with government advice.

  • Screening will be set up away from building entrances/exits.

  • New maximum session numbers have been set with reference to venue size and government guidelines

  • Parents are not permitted in the sports hall at this time, and will collect their children from an alternative fire door.

  • Car-pooling isn’t advised with individuals outside of a single household.  More information on this can be found in the Return to Play – Level 2 guidance link below.

  • Cash payment will be taken on arrival at the screening post.  To avoid any unnecessary exchange of monies, we would be grateful for the correct sum.

Social distancing during the sessions.

  • Practice will be split into small training groups whenever possible, with that group working together throughout to reduce risk of transmission.

  • Contact training will be limited to 20 minute intervals.

  • Team based training and game play is permitted, including the passing of balls between players.

  • Changes will be made to the training sessions to avoid unnecessary close contact.

  • High fives, shouting etc. will not be allowed.

  • Players may use masks, but this could restrict breathing.

Hand washing and hygiene.

  • Hand sanitiser will be available at the entrance to the building and on courtside.

  • Hand sanitiser will be applied regularly throughout the session and on leaving the venue.

  • Basketballs will be wiped down before, during and after the session.

  • Players should not share water bottles.

  • All venues are ventilated as much as possible without compromising security.

  • Avoid showering and changing at venue where possible.

  • Wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds and use an alcohol-based hand gel after going to the toilet.

Food and drinks.

  • Players are encouraged to bring their own labelled water bottle.

  • Children will be reminded not to share water bottles.

  • No water bottles will be provided by the club for player use

  • Water breaks will take places at regular intervals.

Clothing and bags.

  • Arrive changed and ready to play.

  • Players should avoid using changing rooms where possible.

  • Parents will be asked to take any coats or bags home once they have dropped off their child as we are unable to store them at the venue.

Medication and first aid.

  • Parents should make sure any participants within high risk groups have read all risk assessment information (available here, appendix 4) so they can make an informed choice about joining the session.

  • Players should not attend if they display Coronavirus symptoms.

  • Any medication should be given to the coach who will store this safely.

  • All venues have a qualified first aider onsite.

Symptoms.

  • If the player or a member of your household experiences Coronavirus symptoms less than 14 days before a training session, please do not attend and follow Public Health England guidelines.

There are many other stipulations that we will be following during the sessions, all of which can be found in Basketball England's return to play plan which can be found here: https://www.basketballengland.co.uk/safeguarding/return-to-play-guidance/

So you can relax in the knowledge that all of our sessions are as safe as we can possibly make them.

We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation as we try and get South Buck Comets back up and running.  If you are happy with our plan and would like to join us, we will be happy to see you when we open up.

If you have any questions or queries which have not been addressed above or in the Basketball England return to play guidance, please email me directly at kevin.creed@sky.com.

Look forward to seeing you back on court very soon.

Regards

Kevin Creed
